Strawberry, Arizona

Saturday road trip. First stop, Strawberry, Arizona. After a couple of hours in the car, it felt good to stretch our legs, and breathe in the fresh mountain air!
A little education--I guess that means I can count this as school!
What is this I see? A tree starting to change colors! Yea!
Of course, Shiloh didn't want to cooperate during picture taking time.
My wonderful husband and me sitting on the bench together. Awww, how romantic.

Pine, Arizona

The desires of my heart were gratified this Saturday in Pine. Just look at us surrounded by the amazing autumn beauty!! My soul feels revived after drinking in the incredible views.

There was a cool breeze, so it felt like fall. The leaves crunching beneath our feet made it sound like fall. There were lots of evergreens and a few campfires, so it smelled like fall, too. And with all the fiery colors, it definitely looked like fall! The only things missing were my homemade Pumpkin Bread and my homemade Harvest Apple Cider, and then it would have tasted like fall!!
Shiloh and the boys had a blast just throwing rocks into the stream. Experiencing nature in Pine on Saturday was definitely worth the 2 hour drive.

Looking For Fall in All the Wrong Places

My heart aches to see the beautiful colors of Autumn. My search has been in vain thus far.

Nope, not here. Summer flowers are still in bloom.

Not here either. And this is the tree in our backyard that is supposed to change colors. I guess this happens much later here in the desert.

I found no sign of Fall while out in my backyard. I could have stayed out and gotten a really nice tan, though.

These 4 beautiful, orange pumpkins and rust colored mums adorning our front "porch" are the only visual clues that fall has actually arrived.

At least the temperatures have fallen a little and have given us some relief. It is nice to be able to open the doors and windows in the mornings.

Oh, The Tastes and Smells of Autumn

Every Fall our family looks forward to all of the delicious pumpkin recipes we make. We started it off bright and early this morning with Pumpkin Pancakes!! Oh, so good!

Pumpkin Pancakes
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup quick cooking oats
2 TBS wheat germ
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Pinch of ground cinnamon
1 cup milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 cup canned pumpkin
2 TBS vegetable oil ( I use safflower)

*Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl. Combine liquid ingredients, then stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. (It is supposed to be a thick batter, but sometimes I add a tad more milk) Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto a lightly greased griddle and cook until done. We choose to garnish with butter, syrup and whipped cream!!

Lincoln and Shiloh are thoroughly enjoying this autumn treat!

Oh, goodness! Mullin has already cleaned his plate!
